In Our Midst was my senior thesis project for film school. It was shot in January and February, 2001. I then spent month after month editing, creating the titles, doing the sound design, and getting the music finalized. The film was finished in the summer of 2001.
Now, many years later, I am finally writing about my disappointment with the final product. I think that it looks and sounds good. What bothers me is the dialogue, directing, and editing. On paper, Peter seems like an interesting character. On film, he doesn't come off how I was hoping. His lines are a little too unrealistic. I wish I spent more time with the actors as a director (instead of trying to produce and manage the whole shoot). Also, I feel the pacing is just too darn slow. In the end, I blame myself for the film's shortcomings; I bit off more than I could chew.
